Crocodile and fox story

কুমির আর শিয়াল মিলে চাষ করতে গেল। কিসের চাষ করবে? আলুর চাষ। আলু হয় মাটির নীচে। তার গাছ থাকে মাটির উপরে, তা দিয়ে কোনো কাজ হয় না। বোকা কুমির সে কথা জানতো না। সে ভাবলে বুঝি আলু তার গাছের ফল।
তাই সে শিয়ালকে ঠকাবার জন্য বললে, ‘গাছের আগার দিক কিন্ত আমার, আর গোড়ার দিক তোমার।’
শুনে শিয়াল হেসে বললে, ‘আচ্ছা তাই হবে।’
তারপর যখন আলু হল, কুমির তখন সব গাছের আগা কেটে তার বাড়িতে নিয়ে এল। এনে দেখে, তাতে একটিও আলু নেই। তখন সে মাঠে গিয়ে দেখল, শিয়াল মাটি খুঁড়ে সব আলু তুলে নিয়ে গেছে। কুমির ভাবলে, ‘তাই তো। এবার বড্ড ঠকে গিয়েছি। আচ্ছা, আসছে বার দেখব!’
তার পরের বার হল ধানের চাষ। এবার কুমির মনে ভেবেছে, আর কিছুতেই ঠকতে যাবে না। তাই সে আগে থাকতেই শিয়ালকে বললে, ‘ভাই, এবারে কিন্ত আমি আগার দিক নেব না, এবার আমাকে গোড়ার দিক দিতে হবে।’
শুনে শিয়াল হেসে বললে, ‘আচ্ছা তাই হবে!’
তারপর যখন ধান হল, শিয়াল ধানসুদ্ধ গাছের আগা কেটে নিয়ে গেল। কুমির তো এবারে ভারি খুশি হয়ে আছে। ভেবেছে, মাটি খুঁড়ে সব ধান তুলে নেবে। ও কপাল! মাটি খুঁড়ে দেখে সেখানে কিছুই নেই। লাভের মধ্যে খড়গুলো পেলো।
তখন কুমির তো বড্ড চটেছে, আর বলছে, ‘দাঁড়াও শিয়ালের বাছা, তোমাকে দেখাচ্ছি; এবারে আর আমি তোমাকে আগা নিতে দেব না। সব আগা আমি নিয়ে আসব।’
সেবার হল আখের চাষ।
কুমির তো আগেই বলেছে, এবার আর সে
আগা না নিয়ে ছাড়বে না। কাজেই শিয়াল তাকে আগাগুলো দিয়ে নিজে আখগুলো নিয়ে ঘরে বসে মজা করে খেতে লাগল।
কুমির আখের আগা ঘরে এনে চিবিয়ে দেখলে, খালি নোন্তা, তাতে একটুও মিষ্টি নেই। তখন সে রাগ করে আগাগুলো সব ফেলে দিয়ে শিয়ালকে বললে, ‘না ভাই, তোমার সঙ্গে আর আমি চাষ করতে যাব না, তুমি বড্ড ঠকাও!’

 The fox laughed and said, "Well, that's it!"

 Then when the paddy was harvested, the fox cut off the top of the tree with the paddy.  The crocodile is very happy this time.  He thought he would dig up the soil and pick up all the paddy.  O fortune!  There is nothing there to dig the ground.  Got the straw in profit.

 Then the crocodile got angry and said, 'Wait, fox, I'm showing you;  This time I will not let you take the lead.  I will bring all the tips. '
